It is indeed 2020 and the month is April. The day may be unknown but for most of us, we
are stuck at home. We are also
surrounded by those we love. In some
cases we are surrounded by our children and for every waking hour of the
day. It can be exhausting, but there are
some ways to stay lively and have fun by using household items. If you still have some cheap moving boxes
lingering in your garage from your last move, then you are in luck. There is a lot that can be done with the
glorious cardboard.
The idea first came to me from my past. I remember being 12 years old and visiting a
friends house before a basketball game.
That night his church had created a maze and a had a lockin. The maze was constructed entirely from cheapmoving boxes. It was thousands of yards
and must have taken a week to construct.
It was filled with dark tunnels and obstacles. It was honestly one of the most fun
experiences I have ever had. So once I remembered this I went to our own
garage the other day and got to work. I told the kids to go to the park with my
wife and social distance.
I first pulled out all the tape I had. I am honestly surprised how much packing tape
I really had. I then set out by mapping my house. This was pretty fun, some of
us have made tactical plans for the worst case scenario. It was refreshing to
make a tunnel plan instead. So after
crafting some crazy plans I pulled out the cardboard boxes and started to tape
them together.
Some fun was had by moving furniture around to
create ups and downs. I had boxes go up and all the way over our L shaped
couch. I put warning signs telling them not to lean or they would fall off the
edge of death. Ya I put the couch cushions on the ground next to the couch.
Lets face it I knew they were going to attempt to fall off the edge. Kids. they
do the darndest things. After having it run through the entirety of the home, I
ran out of boxes. So the kids came home and I lead them tot he
start of what I deemed the tunnel of death. I got the stare of death from my
wife for doing this to our home. But when she had 2 hours of not having to
watch the kids and go be herself all alone. I was quickly forgiven. I had as much fun as the kids had and I
suggest you try the same.
